Job Description: Illinois Wesleyan University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Performance (Tenure Track) in the School of Theatre Arts. The start date for this position is August 15, 2026. The person hired into this position should have expertise in musical theatre and will be expected to teach Acting as part of the first-year training sequence, Audition Techniques, and Acting the Song.

Job Requirements: MFA in Musical Theatre, Acting, or other closely related fields and a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate education. Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the university level.

The successful candidate will teach a scaffolded sequence of introductory-through-advanced design, focusing on world building as it relates to material and visual cultures. The Technical Director is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of the Performing Arts Center and the Lecture Recital Hall. This includes oversight and execution of lights, sound, load in and set-ups; scenic elements and basic rigging. Events may include: guest artist performances, master classes, recitals, residency artist performances, student theatrical, dance, and music related performances and recitals, and more.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in theatre or closely related field.

Minimum of 2 years of direct experience working in technical theatre capacities such as a stagehand, lighting technician, sound technician, direction or stage management.

Saint Mary School in Buffalo Grove IL is looking for a director for their spring musical for grades 4th-8th. Auditions are planned for mid-December and the show dates would be in mid-March. CHICAGO PLAYWRIGHTS: Applications for the 2025-26 PlayGround-Chicago Writers Pool are being accepted now through May 31, 2025.

THE OPPORTUNITY

25 early-career playwrights as well as 3 alternates will be competitively selected from applications to form the Writers Pool.

Members of the Writers Pool may submit scripts to be considered as part of the Monday Night PlayGround-Chicago staged reading series. Four times each season, September through March. PlayGround will announce a prompt and Writers Pool members have just four-and-a-half days to generate an original short script (max. 10 pages) inspired by the prompt. The top six scripts each round will be staged publicly with leading local directors and actors. Those not selected may submit their scripts to Recess for cold readings via zoom (see below).

From the plays staged throughout the season, up to six will be selected for Best of PlayGround-Chicago (produced in April 2026).

Writers Pool members can gain peer feedback on their work by participating in Recess cold readings (one week after each Monday Night PlayGround and generally via Zoom) as well as through a staff one-on-one session (available upon request). New this year, Writers Pool Alternates will have full access to Recess.
