Orchestra Audition Information

We are seeking a diverse and exciting orchestra that showcases our amazing young theatre musicians from across the state of Illinois!

Whether you have played in band, orchestra, or a musical pit, you are welcome! No previous experience in a musical is required.

Orchestra Parts Available

  • Electric Bass

  • **Cello 

  • *Drums (Drum Kit, mark tree, shaker, tambourine, triangle, wood block)

  • *Guitar (Archtop, banjo, electric guitar, nylon acoustic, solid body electric, steel acoustic)

  • Keyboard 1

  • Keyboard 2 

  • *Percussion (Bass drum, bell tree, bongos, cabana, chimes, conga, cowbells, field drum, mark tree, medium shaker, mounted castanets, orchestra bells, piatti, piccolo snare drum, ratchet, siren whistle, small triangle, splash cymbal, suspended cymbal, tam tam, tambourine, temple block, timpani, vibraslap, wood block, xylophone)

  • *Reed (Alto Saxophone, clarinet, flute, piccolo, soprano saxophone)

  • *Trombone (bass trombone, tenor trombone)

  • Trumpet (flugelhorn, trumpet)

  • **Violin

Notes:
*Drums, Guitar, Percussion, Reed, Trombone can be split amongst students
** Cello and Violin may be doubled by more than one student.

Audition Process

Musicians selected to be in the orchestra should have significant ensemble experience (orchestra, band, pit orchestra, etc.), strong sight-reading skills, ability to read music in multiple keys and mixed meters, and great musicianship. If you are interested in auditioning to be in the orchestra, you need to do the following:

  1. Fill out the Audition Application on jotform, and upload all forms.

  2. Audition Requirements:

Please see the list of instruments sought and prepare:

  • Two 60 second selections

    OR
     

  • One 2 minute selection to play on your instrument

You can play an étude, a classical selection, something from musical theatre, or even contemporary music.  Choose the excerpt which best showcases your skills! 


Please note that while the orchestra is expected to attend every rehearsal 
full company or orchestra is called for, exact times may vary.
