The Leyden High School District presents Radium Girls

The Leyden Fine Arts Department is proud to present Radium Girls by D.W. Gregory's powerful and moving play that explores the strength of women's voices in the face of injustice.

Set in the 1920s, Radium Girls tells the true story of Grace Fryer and her fellow dial painters, young women employed to paint watch faces with glowing radium paint. At first, the work seems glamorous and respectable. But as the women begin to fall ill, they are met not with concern, but with silence and denial from their employers at the U.S. Radium Corporation.

What begins as a health crisis evolves into a fight for truth and justice. The play follows Grace’s transformation from a quiet worker into a determined and courageous woman who refuses to be silenced. In a time when women’s voices were often dismissed, Radium Girls highlights their resilience, bravery, and refusal to be ignored.

Through Grace and her coworkers, Radium Girls shows how women, even in the most challenging circumstances, can stand up, speak out, and change the world.
